Take control over your energy future
Here are 4 things you can do to gain energy independence and enjoy the energy lifestyle you want.
1. Assess your situation
The first step in becoming energy independent is to understand how you currently use energy, how that effects you, and how it impacts the world around you. There are lots of ways to do this. Learn how to read your electric bill and what to look for. Estimate your carbon footprint to measure your environmental impact. Learn how your state’s energy usage compares with others.
2. Define your energy goals
Chances are you have multiple energy goals in mind. If you’re working remotely these days, you may want to keep your electric bill in check while working from home. Taking advantage of the solar tax credit may be another goal, or helping to create jobs in your community. Or you may simply want to have more control over how you source your energy. Your energy goals are all up to you!
3. Make a plan
Next up, write down how you plan to achieve your energy goals. Size up your energy requirements and the best way to meet them. Calculate your investment in energy-saving upgrades and how much you can expect in return. Research Energy Star products that will save you money and help conserve the environment.
4. Take action
By now you have a clear plan for taking action. Now it’s time to make some smart decisions. Make an energy-saving checklist and share it with your family. Be aware of the pitfalls of cheap solar. And if you’re renting your home, choose to have it powered by clean energy sources.
