It’s time to change the way we think about energy

Five shifts in thinking that are good for the planet, your community, and your pocketbook.

You have more control than you think.

When it comes to the production, delivery, and pricing of energy, it may feel like you’re at the mercy of your utility company. But the fact is, you call a lot of the shots. From switching to renewable energy sources to implementing smart home technologies, you can take more control of your energy consumption than ever before.

Access to reliable energy isn’t a given

Many of us take electricity for granted. But as recent events in Texas and Northern California have demonstrated, many Americans are vulnerable to energy shortages and blackouts. And that’s only likely to increase with continued climate change.

Americans consume 26% of the world’s energy.

That’s not a typo. And neither is this: Americans represent only 4% of the world’s population. It’s a good reason to take a close look at our energy lifestyle and look for ways to improve it. Thankfully, there are steps we can all take to make America less of an energy hog.

Energy is a force for good.

Energy is about more than powering our refrigerators and Playstations. Access to reliable energy can have a profound impact on quality of life, especially in developing countries. More and more, energy companies are thinking about people and our planet as much as profits.

Renewables are the only answer.

How’s this for a wake up call: it’s generally estimated that we will run out of fossil fuels by 2060. That’s literally right around the corner. And unless we want to replace those fossil fuels with 14,500 nuclear power plants, renewables are the safest, cleanest, and most abundant alternative there is.
